Dennis Massawe
It's often said, "Nothing good comes easy," and Dennis Massawe understands the meaning of those words. A native of Dar-es Salaam Tanzania in East Africa, It hasn't been a quick or an easy road. The journey continues and his resolve is as solid as a rock and set as a flint to fulfill his mandate. With the debut of his new album, No More LIMBO, Dennis, his wife Lulu, and their three young children are bracing for the exciting chapter in their lives.
Dennis is a gifted singer/songwriter and worship leader. The successful release of the first album, Arise and Shine, in 1996 with the Maranatha band from City Christian Center (Upanga) Dar-es-salaam, Tanzania; paved the way for numerous opportunities to share his gifts.
As he’s traveled to many places, Dennis has witnessed a virtual tapestry of music styles. His influence has predominantly been reggae fusion that combines reggae with other genres. This influence was inspired during his life in the slums listening to reggae themes that were widely attached to positive inspiration and emancipation from the social economic and political dilemma. The likes of Bob Marley, Maxi Priest, Coca Tea, Dennis Brown, Gregory Isaacs, Lucky Dube, Third World, Oyaba, Aswad and others gave birth to the need to express himself lyrically and musically.
While growing up and attending a local Lutheran Church in Kibera Kenya, Dennis came in touch with a different inspiration that transformed his life. Upon accepting Jesus as his personal savior, his compositions naturally gravitated to the reggae influence as the foundation. However, Dennis has continued to evolve as a songwriter and artist who is always seeking to grow. He is gifted and has a wonderful talent and the ability to communicate God's reality and love with energy and joy.
This is clearly notable in his debut Album, as he projects versatility in different styles. Released on May 22nd 2009 in a well attended concert, the central idea was to create a rich worship experience with a self introspection in relation to God and the divine, while incorparating the versatility in style and presentation of music.
Dennis’s personal life mission is to impact, improve and empower lives in hope, faith and love. His passion to fulfill that mission is conveyed through his music and other ventures like The Fountain of Life International Center, a non profit organization reaching out to better the lives of families especially in the developing countries. His desire is that God will use him through his songs as one of his channels to change hearts and lead people to a renewed purpose for living.
For Dennis, ministry is about more than what happens on stage—he lives his life as an act of worship. His friends are aware of the fact that he’ll stop whatever he’s doing to say a prayer for them, encourage them, and to remind them of how amazing and faithful God is. Whether ministering to his friends at home, or reaching out across the world, he is ready and available to serve where God leads him.
He has performed on various platforms out side the church with the same message and continues to do so, opened for great national artists like Oleta Adams, Candy Dulfer, Little Willie G and others, and ministers in Churches, Conferences, Charity Events and Private Events.
Currently, Dennis is promoting the NO MORE LIMBO album as well as occasionally serving at his local church worship team at the Rock Church of Temecula Valley in Southern California. He can be reached at email:
